About this product

Costume Heads & Masks

A costume head carries the whole character and all of the risk. It holds the heat, it restricts the vision, and it puts its weight on somebody’s neck for the length of an appearance. Everything below it is comparatively straightforward.

So we build the shell vented, with a padded internal harness that transfers weight onto the shoulders rather than the head, and a mesh sightline positioned where the performer actually needs to look. Getting the sightline high is a design instinct and getting it low is what stops people walking into things.

Heads are also the part that gets damaged in storage. We supply a stand and storage guidance with every one, because a head left face-down in a bag for a season comes out a different shape.

FAQ

Costume Heads & Masks: quick answers

What is the minimum order for costume heads?
Minimum order is just 12 — with bulk pricing tiers as quantities grow.
How fast will my order arrive?
Your free mockup lands within 24 hours and the finished order ships in about 2 weeks — express turnaround is available for tight dates.
Why does the sightline matter so much?
Because a performer who cannot see the ground trips over children, kerbs and cables. Designers instinctively put the aperture at the character’s eye level, which is often too high. We position it where the person can actually see and then hide it in the design.
How should a head be stored?
Upright on a stand, never face-down in a bag. A head stored badly over a closed season deforms, and re-shaping one costs far more than the stand we send with it.
